The smokey latakia is up front (though I wouldn't consider it a lat bomb), and floral riding shot gun and mildly sweet in the back. But it goes south after that, being too one-dimensional. Other than that, I believe this to be the perfect blend for true lover's of Latakia, it showcases the rich, velvety, smokey, slightly sweet, delectability of Latakia, while offering a robust, yet silky smooth, full smoking experience. Let me share with you that upon trying to stand after about a half an hour of smoking, I nearly fell over. I assume because it is in a crumble kake that the moisture content can initially be high, so maybe dry it a little before smoking to avoid steam/tongue bite. Smooth and creamy may seem incompatible with aformentiond sensations, but somehow it isn?t with Pirate Kake. I'd recommend packing half a bowl as even after you are done latkia will saturate your very being with creamy smoke scent. In my opinion, Pirate Kake is missing the added character, or that little bit of something extra that's needed to elevate it to the status of other top-shelf blends in its class. Not an all day smoke,. I'm sure this has something to do with my humidifying skills, so I usually only buy a couple of ounces at a time. Those of you who enjoy latakia-forward blends are in for a real treat though, as the Orientals and burley add just enough balance to keep Pirate Kake from being a one-dimensional lat bomb. I can particularly taste the cavendish cut burley when I exhale through the nose. As you progress, the burley makes its presence felt with a note that reminds of baking bread and rounds the harsh edges of the licorice-like (in looks and taste) black weed. Not a good tobacco for a newbie or someone who likes aromatics. I don't get much sweetness, but it's not astringent either. Many tobaccos with half as much bill themselves as "heavy" blends. E99 is not as sweet and doesn't bring much Oriental and is very one dimensional. This is a pretty powerful blend that has plenty of flavor as well as Vitamin N. The tin note reminds me of leather and farmland. A word about the aroma, I always thought this would send people running, but the other day I was with three other guys smoking cigars when I lit some PK, they all said how great it smelled.
